Friday 25th April Phonics This week in phonics we have learnt the sounds ear, air, ure and er with greater emphasis on writing words and sentences containing these sounds. We have practised reading all of the Phase 3 tricky words so that we can work towards quicker sight recognition. Click here to join in with a tricky word song. Maths This week, the children have continued to engage with activities that draw attention to the purpose of counting – to find out ‘how many’ objects there are. The children have also revisited the concept of cardinality – the idea that the last number in the count tells us how many things there are altogether. Whiteley Reading Challenge This week we have sent home a reading challenge card in your child's  book bag.  The aim of this challenge is to encourage regular daily reading to improve your child's confidence and fluency.  At the end of each stage we have little rewards to give out - special stickers, bookmarks and certificates and we celeb...

Friday 4th April  Welcome to our last blog before the Easter holidays. This week we have been busy doing doing lots of Easter activities in school..  There is no set homework over the next 2 week break but we hope that the children will continue to read regularly with you at home.  We wish you all a lovely break with your families. RE We have been learning about Easter through the concept of 'new life'.  First, we discussed when / where we have seen signs of new life e.g. new buds on trees, spring flowers.  We talked about the signs of spring - lambs being born and chicks hatching.  Then we learnt what Christians believe about new life and Jesus at Easter. We enjoyed making our Easter cards. Phonics This week in phonics, we have learnt the phonemes 'or' and 'ur' 'ow' and 'oi'.
