This week, we have been learning the nursery rhyme 'Hickory, dickory dock'.  We have looked at a variety of clocks and noticed that all the numbers go in order.  We have also spent time talking about the timings of our school day e.g. we start our day at 9 o'clock, we eat lunch at 12 o'clock.

Phonics
This week we have begun Phase 2 and have introduced the letters s, a, t , p. 
We have learnt the names of the letters, the sounds they make and the accompanying action.
You may like to ask your child to show you these actions.
We have identified words that contain these letters e.g. sun begins with 's', tip has 'p' at the end of the word.

Bug Club
Please check your child's reading log to see which sounds we have learnt this week.

Maths
This week in maths, we have been comparing quantities.  We have modelled the language 'more than' and 'fewer than' to describe how may objects are in a set.
We have used a variety of objects of different size and colour to help the children to realise that it is the amount that is important.

Nursery Rhyme dress up day

On Wednesday 23rd October we will having a sponsored nursery rhyme sing along to raise money to provide new creative opportunities in the outdoor classroom for the reception children to use.  On this day each class will be singing as many nursery rhymes as they can within 10 minutes.
We will also be asking the children to come to school dressed as a nursery rhyme character.  This could be as simple as a dress for Little Miss Muffet or shorts and t-shirt for Jack (Jack and Jill).  It would be great if your child could say which character they are dressed as.

We have been working on the children's use of scissors.  Lots of children have found this very challenging.  Please see the correct way to hold scissors below.  Friday 13th September Welcome to our first blog post of this new school year! We are enjoying getting to know your children and we are pleased with how they are settling into their classes. Pictured below is our outdoor woodland area situated behind the Year R classrooms. Your child will be spending a day a week in our woodland area. We would just like to recap what your child needs to bring to school. They should bring a named, non spillable water bottle to school each day (filled with water please). On Sunny days you might like to send a named sun hat with your child.  Please apply sun cream at home in the morning and do not send it to school. Please can you put a change of clothes in your child's book bag as they may well get wet in the water tray or have an accident.  A change of clothes may include plain leggings or jogging bottoms, pants, socks and a plain t-shirt.
