Friday 17th May This week we have continued to read stories written by the author Catherine Rayner. We have thought about how the different animals move ( penguins, lions, giraffes, crocodiles, tigers and bears). We then thought about words that would be good for describing how the animals move and how they look. We used these words to write sentences to describe the animals eg. The penguin waddles and has soft feathers. Phonics This week in phonics we have revised the sounds sh, ch, th and ng with greater emphasis on writing words and sentences containing these sounds. We have practised reading all of the Phase 3 tricky words so that we can work towards quicker sight recognition. This week's book to read on  Bug Club  to practise these phonemes is "Sharon and Flash". Please read this book 2 more times at home to support your child's developing phonic and blending knowledge. Maths This week, the children have been using the tens frames and counters to subitise amounts to 10.  Then we have been finding out how 10 can be made from 2 parts.  e.g.  If there were 5 red counters and 5 yellow counters on the tens frame, "10 is made of 5 and 5.  5 and 5 make 10 altogether."

Friday 3rd May This week in Year R, we had a very exciting trip to Longdown Activity Farm.   We loved seeing all the different farm animals and enjoyed stroking a chick, collecting eggs and feeding the goats. Thank you to all our kind volunteers who supported us on the day. We have continued developing our understanding of the world (Science) by making careful observations and using our words to describe and write about what we can see. We hope your child had a wonderful day! Phonics This week in phonics, we have revisited the phase 3 phonemes ' j ', ' v ', ' w ', and ' x ' with a greater emphasis on writing words and sentences containing these sounds. This week's books to read on Bug Club to practise these phonemes are " Max's box " and "Jack gets a pet".
