Friday 15th November
Friday 15th November
This week, we have been reading the book 'Wow! said the owl' by the author Tim Hopgood. This is a story about a little owl who decides to stay awake all day instead of going to sleep at night like they are supposed to. The little owl discovers a world bursting with colour. We have talked about the front cover, the title and the author. We have been joining in with the repeated text all together. We have also discussed the meaning of some of the words to expand our vocabulary.
Phonics
This week in phonics we have been learning the sounds of the letters ck, e, u, r. We have read words containing these sounds and practiced making CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) words on magnetic boards. We have also learnt to form the letters using our school handwriting style.
Bug Club
Please check your child's reading log to see which sounds we have learnt this week and to see which book we have allocated.
This week, please encourage your child to read 'Is it a pet?' twice at home.
Thank you to all the families who are logging in to bug club and supporting reading at home. It really does make a huge difference to your child's confidence when sharing a book.
This week, we have been comparing quantities. The children have been encouraged to compare the number of objects in 2 sets by matching them 1-1. Sometimes, there have been no objects left over after matching them 1-1 and we talked about these being equal.
You may like to help your child set the table for dinner encouraging objects 1-1 e.g. 1 plate, 1 fork etc for each person sitting at the table.
Name writing
Your child has been given a name card to support their name writing practice. It would be great if you could support your child at home by encouraging them to copy their name in our school handwriting style.
Many thanks for your co-operation.
