Friday 13th December
We would like to say a big THANK YOU to all the children for their wonderful nativity performances this week. They have been so excited to share the performance with you. I am sure you were just as excited to see them!
Celebrations
This week we have been thinking about celebrations, in particular Birthdays. We have been thinking about how birthday celebrations often have the same elements e.g. cards, presents and cake. We have also noticed that our birthday celebrations look different now from when we were babies.
This week was Lola's birthday (our class toy). We celebrated by making cards and banners, by hanging balloons and of course, singing her happy birthday.
Phonics
This week in phonics we have been learning the letter sounds f, ff, l, ll, ss, s and h. We have been reading and writing words that contain these sounds. We have also revised all the letter sounds learnt so far.
These are the phase 2 tricky words that we are learning.
I, to, no, go, into, her, the
Here is a link to the tricky word song.
Please remember to return your phase 2 books and reading logs each Wednesday (box outside the classroom door).
Maths
This week the children have been learning all about pattern.
We have been copying and continuing a repeating pattern using objects like these below.
We have also learnt that we can use our bodies to make patterns e.g. clap, stamp, clap, stamp. We have used the term AB repeating pattern to describe these.
Christmas Cards
A few parents have asked about giving out Christmas cards to the class. At Whiteley, we encourage children to make one special Christmas card for the class, not individual cards.
We then share your child's card and message with the class and say a big thank you!
This is better for the environment as well.
Friday 20th December is our last day of the Autumn term. We will be finishing at 12:05pm.
This is our last blog of the year so we would like to take the opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas.
