• Friday 14th February

This week we have looked at the story 'Rosie's Walk' by Pat Hutchins.  We have learnt about positional language (over, across, through) and used these words to retell the story using story props.

This image shows some of the other positional words we have been using this week.

We have also been very busy writing letters to our families that we are going to pop into the postbox the week after half term.  Thank you if you have already sent in a stamped addressed envelope.
Please ensure that your child's name is written clearly on your child's envelope.
If you have not yet done so, please send in the named stamped addressed envelope  straightaway after half term as some children will be walking to the post box on Monday 24th February.

Phonics

This week in phonics, we have been learning the letters l, ll, s and ss with a particular focus on letter formation and writing CVC words such as leg, sun and doll.

Maths
This week in Maths, we have been learning all about 2D shapes.
We have learnt the names of the four basic 2D shapes - triangle, circle, square and rectangle/oblong - and we have learnt some of their properties e.g. a circle has one curved side and that squares and oblongs both have 4 straight sides.
We have looked at these shapes in different orientations and asked questions i.e. if a  3 sided shape is upside down - is it still a triangle?

We have used shapes to make our own shape pictures e.g.

We have also looked at the shapes of signs in our local environment in preparation for our walk after half term.  How many signs will you see in Whiteley?

Reading

Please can you check your child's reading log each Friday to find out which Bug Club book they have read at school each week. This will be allocated to your child's Bug Club account.

Please can you read this book two more times at home to develop your child's confidence and fluency.   It's really important to read the allocated Bug Club book as this closely matches and reinforces the letter sounds that have been practiced at school each week.

Thank you!

You will also continue to receive some paper phonics books each week to share at home with your child.  Please can you return these each Wednesday so that we have enough books to give to each child on a Friday.

We wish you all a happy half term.
