Friday 28th February
Friday 28th February
This week at school we were excited to walk to the postbox to post our letters. We hope that they arrive soon! On our walk, we practised using positional language to describe our journey and the features of our local environment e.g. "We walked past the bus stop", "We went over the stream".
We made simple maps to show our walk and use Digimaps to show the route we took.
We used google Earth to zoom into our school from space. We discussed how our world looks from above and identified features.
Phonics
This week in phonics we have learnt to read and write words with the phonemes j, v, w and x. We have learnt the new tricky words me and be - these are words we learn to recognise by sight.
Please use the games on your child's bug club account to practise these new sounds. Please also check your child's reading log to find out which book has been allocated this week to practise these sounds at home. This is really important as there is a lot of new learning to remember this week.
Thank you!
Maths
This week in Maths, we have been continuing to engage with activities that draw attention to the purpose of counting - to find out 'how many' objects there are. The children have also revisited the concept of cardinality - the idea that the last number in the count tells us how many things there are altogether.
We have been practising counting beyond 20 using the repeating pattern of the 1's e.g. 21, 22, 23, 24 and so on.
Next week
Next week, we will be starting a new project based around 'Supertato'.
On Wednesday, we will be making our own super vegetables! Please can your child bring in a large vegetable on Monday 3rd March to use for this activity e.g. large carrot, potato, leek or squash.
Thank you for your continued support.
Parent top tips!
Here are some suggestions on setting boundaries at home.
- boundaries should be planned
- boundaries should be consistent for example, not jumping on the sofa, waiting at the side of the road etc
- boundaries should be reinforced by all adults in the family home
- once a boundary has been set, it then needs to be adhered to.
- Your child may not like his at first, however, boundaries make children feel safe and secure.
- If a time limit has been set, give regular reminders of the time left e.g. you have 5 minutes left before the TV is turned off.
- Repeat your expectations until your request has been followed - this may take some time!
