 People Who Help Us

Phonics

In phonics this week, we have learnt to read and write words with the digraphs and trigraphs aieeigh and oa. We have consolidated our recognition of the new "tricky" words - me, my, he, she, be, by

these are words we recognise by sight.

It would really support your child to remember the new digraphs that we are learning if you could play some games related to these sounds on your child's bug club account.
Thank you

Maths

This week, the children have continued to explore the composition of numbers within 10, focusing on the ‘special case’ of when 2 equal parts combine to make a whole. The children first used their skills of comparison and identify when 2 sets are equal or NOT equal. The children have started to recall some doubles facts e.g. double 2 is 4, double 5 is 10.

Parent top tips!

Encouraging your child's independence

It is really important to encourage your child to be independent so that it builds their confidence and self- esteem.

In school we try to encourage the children to be as independent as possible but it is also important to allow time at home to help children to practise these independent skills.

Here are some examples of things you can do to encourage your child to be more independent and resilient...

- Complete each resilient challenge.  It's not too late to bring in previous challenges.  (There are 4 so far)

-  Encourage your child to get themselves dressed each day.  You could help by laying out their clothes for them first.

- Show your children how to turn their clothes the correct way after taking them off.  e.g  if the sleeves are inside out, teach them to put their hand in and pull out the sleeve themselves.

- Encourage your child to put on their own coat and shoes.  Children should be able to do up their own coat.

- Encourage your child to tidy away their toys when they are finished.

- Teach your child to cut up their own food using a knife and fork (or some of it) so that they are continuing to practise this skill.

- Encourage your child to speak in a full sentence when asking for something to continue to develop language skills.
