Phonics
This week in phonics we have learnt the sounds ear, air, ure and er with greater emphasis on writing words and sentences containing these sounds. We have practised reading all of the Phase 3 tricky words so that we can work towards quicker sight recognition.

Maths

This week, the children have continued to engage with activities that draw attention to the purpose of counting – to find out ‘how many’ objects there are. The children have also revisited the concept of cardinality – the idea that the last number in the count tells us how many things there are altogether.

Whiteley Reading Challenge

This week we have sent home a reading challenge card in your child's book bag.  The aim of this challenge is to encourage regular daily reading to improve your child's confidence and fluency.

At the end of each stage we have little rewards to give out - special stickers, bookmarks and certificates and we celebrate your child's achievement in class with a round of applause!

We ask that you record one reading task per day on the challenge card - this may be a phonic game, paper phonic book or book on Bug Club.  Remember we encourage the children to revisit each book several times.

Thank you for your support!
