This week at school, we have had a very exciting time!  We received an incubator full of eggs for us to hatch!

We found out about animals that hatch from eggs and made predictions about what we thought our eggs might contain.


Phonics

This week in phonics, we have ben revising all the phase 2 and phase 3 sounds we have learnt so far.

This week's sounds are ch, sh, th and ng.

We have also been revising all of the phase 2 and phase 3 tricky words.

Maths

This week, we have been revising our knowledge of composition.  We have looked at numbers 6-9 using the '5 and a bit' structure and then we have begun to explore how 10 is composed e.g. 10 can be composed of 2 parts.

Here are some examples...

10 is made of 2 and 8, 8 and 2 make 10

10 is made of 9 and 1, 9 and 1 make 10


Reading challenge

Well done to those children who have completed the first part of the reading challenge and have gained a special sticker.

 Friday 18th October This week, we have been learning the nursery rhyme 'Hickory, dickory dock'.  We have looked at a variety of clocks and noticed that all the numbers go in order.  We have also spent time talking about the timings of our school day e.g. we start our day at 9 o'clock, we eat lunch at 12 o'clock. Phonics This week we have begun Phase 2 and have introduced the letters s, a, t , p.  We have learnt the names of the letters, the sounds they make and the accompanying action. Friday 27th September This week we have been singing the nursery rhyme 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'. We are encouraging the children to join in with actions. We have been working on the children's use of scissors.  Lots of children have found this very challenging.  Please see the correct way to hold scissors below. Right handed scissor hold Left handed scissor hold You might like to give your child opportunities to use scissors at home.  Perhaps they could help you by snipping the tops of green beans when you are cooking.  They could practise snipping the tops of paper tubes to make models.   Friday 6th June  This week at school we have been learning about fairytales.  We have been reading "Goldilocks and the Three Bears". We have been practising retelling the story in groups and role playing the characters.  We worked on using different kinds of expression in our voices to show the different characters.  You might like to practise this skill at home when your child is reading to you. Phonics This week in phonics we have revised the digraphs long oo, short oo, ar and or.
