Trip to Longdown Activity Farm


We are very excited about our trip to Longdown Activity Farm next Wednesday 25th June.  
Please can you make sure your child has...
- a water bottle
- a waterproof coat
- sensible shoes to walk around a farm (they are allowed to wear trainers to school on this day).
- their lunch (if you haven’t pre- ordered a school lunch)
- please apply 24 hour protection suncream. 

Your child might like to wear leggings or trousers as we will be handling some small animals at the farm.

This week at school we have revisited the story of Goldilocks and the three bears. We have done some drama sessions around the story and have practised retelling the story in our own words. 
We have made our own fairy tale books and have written our own version of Goldilocks and the three bears.

Phonics

This week we have been revising the sounds ear, air and ure. We have been reading and spelling words with these sounds. We have also been revisiting all of the phase 2 and 3 tricky words practising reading and spelling these words ready for year 1.


Maths

This week in maths we have been busy counting to 20 and beyond. 
We practised counting objects that could be moved as we counted as well as thinking of strategies to help us count when objects cannot be moved like those on wrapping paper. 
We thought really carefully about the pattern when counting e.g. twenty-one, twenty-two, twenty-three and so on. 



Just a reminder that our minibeast concert will take place on Wednesday 9th July 2:30pm.

 Friday 18th October This week, we have been learning the nursery rhyme 'Hickory, dickory dock'.  We have looked at a variety of clocks and noticed that all the numbers go in order.  We have also spent time talking about the timings of our school day e.g. we start our day at 9 o'clock, we eat lunch at 12 o'clock. Friday 27th September This week we have been singing the nursery rhyme 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'. We are encouraging the children to join in with actions. We have been working on the children's use of scissors.  Lots of children have found this very challenging.  Please see the correct way to hold scissors below. Right handed scissor hold Left handed scissor hold You might like to give your child opportunities to use scissors at home.  Perhaps they could help you by snipping the tops of green beans when you are cooking.  They could practise snipping the tops of paper tubes to make models.   Friday 6th June  This week at school we have been learning about fairytales.  We have been reading "Goldilocks and the Three Bears". We have been practising retelling the story in groups and role playing the characters.  We worked on using different kinds of expression in our voices to show the different characters.  You might like to practise this skill at home when your child is reading to you. Phonics This week in phonics we have revised the digraphs long oo, short oo, ar and or.
