Friday 19th September

  Friday 19th September

We have been learning and performing the nursery rhymes "Incy Wincy Spider" and "Little Miss Muffet".

Over the next few weeks, we will be learning lots of different nursery rhymes and on Tuesday 21st October, we will be having a nursery rhyme dress up day and sponsored nursery rhyme singing event at school.  Further details will follow nearer the time.

Phonics

At Whiteley Primary School in Phonics, we first focus on Phase 1 which is all about the children tuning into sounds around them and getting ready to begin developing oral blending and segmenting skills.

Phase One concentrates on developing children's speaking and listening skills and lays the foundations for the phonic work which starts in Phase 2.

The main purpose of this weeks Phonics was to develop children's listening skills and awareness of sounds in the environment.

Mrs Pretty has recorded a video to demonstrate a listening game that you might like to play at home. If your child is confident in discriminating sounds, try asking them to describe them e.g. the paper is making a ripping sound, the water is making a splashing sound.

Phase 1 Phonics challenge

Next week we will be sending home our Phase 1 Phonics challenge cards for you to work through with your child. Each week offers some different practical activities to develop your child's early phonic skills.

Raincoats and Wellies

Please can you make sure that your child has a waterproof named coat in school every day and that they have brought a named pair of wellies.  The children spend half of their time learning outside each day and it is important that they have a coat in case of rain.

Choosing Lunch

Please can you talk about the lunch choices with your child each day so that they know what they would like to choose.  If you feel your child would not enjoy the choices on a particular day, you might like to send in a packed lunch from home instead.

Thank you for your support.
