This week, we have been learning about Bonfire night and why we celebrate it.  We have listened to the story of Guy Fawkes and learnt to mix our own paint colours to create firework pictures.

Phonics
This week, we have begun learning the sounds in Phase 2.
We have introduced the letters s, a, t, and p.
We have learnt the names of the letters, the sounds they make and the accompanying action.

We have identified words that contain these letters e.g. sun begins with 's', tap has 'a' in the middle.

Bug Club
Well done to all those children who have completed the first part of the Bug Club challenge and have received their special sticker.

Maths
A key focus this week is deepening the children's understanding of 5 as a quantity by linking the number itself to the 5 fingers on one hand.  We have sung and learnt the number rhyme 5 little peas.

You may like to make some collections of 5 at home with your child.

 Friday 12th September Welcome to our first blog post of this new school year! We are enjoying getting to know your children and we are pleased with how they are settling into their classes. Pictured below is our outdoor woodland area situated behind the Year R classrooms. Your child will be spending time each week in our woodland area. We would just like to recap what your child needs to bring to school. They should bring a named, non spillable water bottle to school each day (filled with water please). On Sunny days you might like to send a named sun hat with your child.  Please apply sun cream at home in the morning and do not send it to school. Please can you put a change of clothes in your child's book bag as they may well get wet in the water tray or have an accident.  A change of clothes may include plain leggings or jogging bottoms, pants, socks and a plain t-shirt. Friday 26th September This week we have been singing the nursery rhyme 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'. We are encouraging the children to join in with actions. We have been working on the children's use of scissors.  Lots of children have found this very challenging.  Please see the correct way to hold scissors below. Right handed scissor hold Left handed scissor hold You might like to give your child opportunities to use scissors at home.  Perhaps they could help you by snipping the tops of green beans when you are cooking.  They could practise snipping the tops of paper tubes to make models. Friday 19th September

   Friday 19th September We have been learning and performing the nursery rhymes "Incy Wincy Spider" and "Little Miss Muffet". Over the next few weeks, we will be learning lots of different nursery rhymes and on Tuesday 21st October, we will be having a nursery rhyme dress up day and sponsored nursery rhyme singing event at school.  Further details will follow nearer the time.
