Friday 23rd February
This week at school we were excited to walk to the post box to post our letters. We hope that they arrive soon! On our walk, we practised using positional vocabulary to describe our journey and the features of our local environment e.g. "We walked past the bus stop.", "We went over the stream."
We made simple maps to show our walk.
We used Google Earth to zoom into our school from space. We discussed how our world looks from above and identified features.
Phonics
In phonics this week we have learnt to read and write words with the phonemes j,v,w and x. We have learnt the new tricky words me and be. - these are words we learn to recognize by sight.
Please use the games on your child's Bug Club account to practise these new sounds. Please also check your child's reading log to find out which book to read at home to practise these sounds. This is really important as there is a lot of new learning to remember this week.
Thank you!
Maths
This week in Maths we have been continuing to engage with
activities that draw attention to the purpose of counting – to find out ‘how
many’ objects there are. The children have also revisited the concept of
cardinality – the idea that the last number in the count tells us how many
things there are altogether.
We have been practising counting beyond 20 using the repeating pattern of the ‘1s’e.g. 21,22, 23, 24
Next Week
Next week we will be starting a new project based around "Supertato".
On Wednesday we will be making our own super vegetables! Please can your child bring in a large vegetable on Monday 26th February to use for this activity e.g. a large carrot, potato, leek or squash.
Thank you for your continued support.
