Phonics 

This week in phonics we have been revising all the phase 2 and 3 sounds learnt so far and have learnt some new sounds as well. This weeks sounds are :- ow, oi and ear. 

The books we have been reading together this week are :- This floats, that sinks and On the Go. Next week we will be reading Brown Fox Tricks Fox, Stop that Popcorn and Pet Kits.

Maths

This week, the children have continued to engage with activities that draw attention to the purpose of counting – to find out ‘how many’ objects there are. The children have also revisited the concept of cardinality – the idea that the last number in the count tells us how many things there are altogether.


Art

We would like to set up an art outdoor area with ready mixed paint for the children to have the opportunity to mix paints independently. If you have any empty clear soap dispensers at home these would be very useful for putting paint in. Many thanks.



Reading Challenge

Well done to those children who have brought in their reading challenge and collected their sticker and bookmark. Please continue this challenge at home. Mrs Pennington is looking forward to handing out the reading certificates in our year R assembly.

 Friday 15th September Welcome to our first blog post of this new school year! We are enjoying getting to know your children and we are pleased with how they are settling into their classes. Pictured below is our outdoor woodland area situated behind the Year R classrooms. Your child will be spending a week at a time in each of our outdoor areas. We would just like to recap what your child needs to bring to school. They should bring a named, non spillable water bottle to school each day (filled with water please). On Sunny days you might like to send a named sun hat with your child.  Please apply sun cream at home in the morning and do not send it to school. Please can you put a change of clothes in your child's book bag as they may well get wet in the water tray or have an accident.  A change of clothes may include plain leggings or jogging bottoms, pants, socks and a plain t-shirt. Friday 22nd September This week we have been singing the nursery rhyme 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'. We are encouraging the children to join in with actions. We have been working on the children's use of scissors.  Lots of children have found this very challenging.  Please see the correct way to hold scissors below. Right handed scissor hold Left handed scissor hold You might like to give your child opportunities to use scissors at home.  Perhaps they could help you by snipping the tops of green beans when you are cooking.  They could practise snipping the tops of paper tubes to make models.     Friday 3rd November This week, we have been learning about Bonfire night and why we celebrate it.  We have listened to the story of Guy Fawkes and learnt to mix our own paint colours to create firework pictures. Phonics This week in Phonics, we have been learning the names and sounds of the letters  s, a, t  and  p .  We have read words containing these sounds and practised making CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant)  words on our magnetic boards.  We have also learnt to form the letters using our school handwriting style.   Below is an online lesson to revisit SATP.
