Friday 7th March

 Friday 7th March

This week, we have been reading the story of 'Supertato'.  He is a supermarket hero who saves the day when there is an evil pea on the loose!
We have discussed our likes and dislikes about the story and have explored new vocabulary such as 'gasped', 'vanished' and 'in distress'.  We have practised joining in with the reading using lots of expression in our voices.
We have even made our own Super Veggies!  We had lots of fun.

Phonics
This week in Phonics, we have ben learning about the sounds y, z, zz and qu.  We have practised writing words and sentences using these sounds.
We have started to learn the Phase 3 tricky words.

Maths

This week, we have been learning about comparison of quantities using the language 'more than', 'less than' and 'equal to' to describe the relationship between numbers e.g. 5 is more than 4.

You may like to encourage your child to gather small quantities of objects and explore this at home.

Parent top tips!

Here is some guidance to help with bedtimes.

The NHS recommends that 'most children aged 3 to 5 will need about 12 hours sleep each night'.  Here is some advice from the NHS to help with bedtimes.

If your child will not go to bed:

  • Decide what time you want your child to go to bed (e.g. 7 o'clock)
  • Start a "winding down" bedtime routine around 30 minutes before the time that your child usually falls asleep. Bring this forward by 5 to 10 minutes each week – or 15 minutes if your child is in the habit of going to bed very late – until you get to the bedtime you want.
  • Set a limit on how much time you spend with your child when you put them to bed. For example, read only 1 story, then tuck your child in and say goodnight.
  • Give your child their favourite toy or comforter before settling into bed.
  • Leave a dim light on if necessary.
  • If your child gets up, keep taking them back to bed again with as little fuss or talk as possible.
  • Try to be consistent.
  • You may have to repeat this routine for several nights or longer until it is established.
