Friday 9th May It has been lovely to congratulate children on completing their first 10 reads for our home reading challenge.  Please continue to hand these in and we will give out the stickers for completing the first part. This week week we have been thinking about celebrations and why they are special. We have then learnt about the Jewish celebration of 'Shabbat' and have thought about the similarities and differences with other celebrations.  You might like to talk to your child about celebrations you take part in with your family.  Maybe look back at some photos. Do all people share those celebrations? Do all children celebrate in the same way? How do different children celebrate their birthdays?  Phonics This week in phonics we have revisited the phase 3 sounds  y, z, zz, qu We have practised writing words and sentences using these sounds. This week's book to read on  Bug Club  to practise these phonemes is ' Chick gets lost'. Pleas...

Friday 2nd May   This week, we have continued to read stories written by the author Catherine Rayner. We have thought about how the different animals move (penguins, lions, giraffes, crocodiles, tigers and bears).  We thought about words that would be good for describing how the animals move and how they look.  We used these words to write sentences to describe the animals e.g. The penguin waddles and has soft feathers. Phonics This week in phonics we have begun to revisit the phase 3 sounds with a greater emphasis on writing words containing these sounds.  This week we have revisited j, v, w, and x.    We have practised all of the phase 3 tricky words so that we can work towards quicker sight recognition. Click here to listen to the phase 3 tricky word song. Maths This week, we have revisited the concept of subitising - instantly seeing how many objects are in a group without having to count them. We have used our subitising skills alongside a tens ...
