This week, we have been singing the nursery rhyme 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'.  We are encouraging the children to join in with the actions.

We have been working on the children's use of scissors.  Lots of children have found this very challenging.  Please see the correct way to hold a scissors below.

Right handed scissors hold.

Left handed scissor hold.

You may like to give your child opportunities to use scissors at home.  Perhaps they could help you by snipping the tops of green beans when you are cooking.  They could practise snipping the tops off paper tubes to make models.

At school, we use scissors like the ones below.  If you don't have any scissors, please let us know.

Maths

This week in Maths, we have been encouraging the children to count objects by using 1:1 correspondence by counting numbers at the same time as moving or touching the objects.

Phonics

This week we have been focussing on listening to the initial sound in a word by playing 'I spy'.

Nursery Rhyme dress up day

On Tuesday 20th October we will having a sponsored nursery rhyme sing along to raise money to provide new creative opportunities in the outdoor classroom for the reception children to use.  On this day each class will be singing as many nursery rhymes as they can within 10 minutes.

We will also be asking the children to come to school dressed as a nursery rhyme character.  This could be as simple as a dress for Little Miss Muffet or shorts and t-shirt for Jack (Jack and Jill).  It would be great if your child could say which character they are dressed as. Please check your child's bookbag for their sponsorship from.
