Trip to Longdown Activity Farm


We are very excited about our trip to Longdown Activity Farm next Tuesday (30th April).  
Please can you make sure your child has...
- a water bottle
- a waterproof coat
- sensible shoes to walk around a farm (they are allowed to wear trainers to school on this day).
- their lunch (if you haven’t pre- ordered a school lunch)
Your child might like to wear leggings or trousers as we will be handling some small animals at the farm.

This week in Reception has been so exciting! All of our eggs hatched into ducklings. The children have loved observing them, holding them and helping to look after them.

We have been developing our Understanding the World (Science) learning, making careful observations and using our words to describe and write about what we can see.  We hope that your child has enjoyed the experience and told you all about it!

Phonics

This week in phonics, we have been learning the phonemes 'ure', 'air'  and 'er' with a greater emphasis on writing words and sentences containing these sounds. We have also been learning the tricky words all, was, live and give.

This week's books to read on Bug Club to practise these digraphs are "Hair" and " Unfair!".

We have continued to practise reading all of the phase 2 and phase 3 tricky words so that we can work towards quicker sight recognition.

Maths
This week we have revisited the concepts of subitising and doubling.  Subitising is when you can see the quantity without counting.  We have used our subitising skills to make 6 in a range of different patterns e.g. 4 counters and 2 counters or 5 counters and 1 counter.


6 is made up of 3 and 3

3 and 3 make 6 altogether.

 Friday 15th September Welcome to our first blog post of this new school year! We are enjoying getting to know your children and we are pleased with how they are settling into their classes. Pictured below is our outdoor woodland area situated behind the Year R classrooms. Your child will be spending a week at a time in each of our outdoor areas. We would just like to recap what your child needs to bring to school. They should bring a named, non spillable water bottle to school each day (filled with water please). On Sunny days you might like to send a named sun hat with your child.  Please apply sun cream at home in the morning and do not send it to school. Please can you put a change of clothes in your child's book bag as they may well get wet in the water tray or have an accident.  A change of clothes may include plain leggings or jogging bottoms, pants, socks and a plain t-shirt. Friday 22nd September This week we have been singing the nursery rhyme 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'. We are encouraging the children to join in with actions. We have been working on the children's use of scissors.  Lots of children have found this very challenging.  Please see the correct way to hold scissors below. Right handed scissor hold Left handed scissor hold You might like to give your child opportunities to use scissors at home.  Perhaps they could help you by snipping the tops of green beans when you are cooking.  They could practise snipping the tops of paper tubes to make models.     Friday 3rd November This week, we have been learning about Bonfire night and why we celebrate it.  We have listened to the story of Guy Fawkes and learnt to mix our own paint colours to create firework pictures. Phonics This week in Phonics, we have been learning the names and sounds of the letters  s, a, t  and  p .  We have read words containing these sounds and practised making CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant)  words on our magnetic boards.  We have also learnt to form the letters using our school handwriting style.   Below is an online lesson to revisit SATP.
