Welcome to our last blog before the Easter holidays. This week we have been busy doing doing lots of Easter activities in school..  There is no set homework over the next 2 week break but we hope that the children will continue to read regularly with you at home.  We wish you all a lovely break with your families.


RE
We have been learning about Easter through the concept of 'new life'.  First, we discussed when / where we have seen signs of new life e.g. new buds on trees, spring flowers.  We talked about the signs of spring - lambs being born and chicks hatching.  Then we learnt what Christians believe about new life and Jesus at Easter.
We enjoyed making our Easter cards.

Phonics
This week in phonics, we have learnt the phonemes 'or' and 'ur' 'ow' and 'oi'.

We also learnt the tricky words 'you' as well as recapping all previously learnt tricky words.

Maths
In Maths this week, we have been learning the names and properties of a range of 3D shapes - cube, cone, cylinder, cuboid, pyramid and sphere.
We have named each of the shapes and looked at their properties such as how many faces each 3D shape has and what shape are those faces e.g. a cube as 6 square faces.




We have also enjoyed lots of other Easter activities.  For example, painting pictures of spring / new life, making Easter chicks and bunnies, decorating Easter eggs and learning to sing some Easter songs.

 Friday 18th October This week, we have been learning the nursery rhyme 'Hickory, dickory dock'.  We have looked at a variety of clocks and noticed that all the numbers go in order.  We have also spent time talking about the timings of our school day e.g. we start our day at 9 o'clock, we eat lunch at 12 o'clock. Phonics This week we have begun Phase 2 and have introduced the letters s, a, t , p.  We have learnt the names of the letters, the sounds they make and the accompanying action. Friday 27th September This week we have been singing the nursery rhyme 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'. We are encouraging the children to join in with actions. We have been working on the children's use of scissors.  Lots of children have found this very challenging.  Please see the correct way to hold scissors below. Right handed scissor hold Left handed scissor hold You might like to give your child opportunities to use scissors at home.  Perhaps they could help you by snipping the tops of green beans when you are cooking.  They could practise snipping the tops of paper tubes to make models.  Friday 13th September Welcome to our first blog post of this new school year! We are enjoying getting to know your children and we are pleased with how they are settling into their classes. Pictured below is our outdoor woodland area situated behind the Year R classrooms. Your child will be spending a day a week in our woodland area. We would just like to recap what your child needs to bring to school. They should bring a named, non spillable water bottle to school each day (filled with water please). On Sunny days you might like to send a named sun hat with your child.  Please apply sun cream at home in the morning and do not send it to school. Please can you put a change of clothes in your child's book bag as they may well get wet in the water tray or have an accident.  A change of clothes may include plain leggings or jogging bottoms, pants, socks and a plain t-shirt.
