Friday 24th April

 Friday 24th April

This week, we have continued to learn about 'People who help us'.  We have continued learning about the features of non-fiction books such as the contents page, headings, labels, bold print and glossary.

We also thought how the police help us, when our favourite swing went missing from our outdoor classroom.

We created posters to help find our missing swing and pinned them around the school.

Phonics
In phonics this week, we have learnt to read and write words with 'ear', 'air', 'ure' and 'er'.
We have continued learning the phase 3 tricky words.

It would really support your child to remember all the digraphs and trigraphs that we are learning if you could play some of the games related to these sounds on your child's bug club account.
Thank you!

Maths
This week, the children have continued to engage in activities that draw attention to the purpose of counting - to find out 'how many' objects there are.  The children have also revisited the concept of cardinality - the idea that the last number in the count tells us how many things there are altogether.

Parent top tips!
Let's focus on listening and attention.
Children aged 4-5 are mostly able to do 2 things at the same time so they can listen to instructions without interrupting their game for example.
They should also be able to shift their attention to the speaker without the speaker needing to use their name.
Here are some useful adult child interaction strategies:-
Face to face - so ensure your child is looking at you
model and repeat the desired behaviour
follow your child's lead

As the weather is getting better the children are enjoying learning outside. If anyone has a tea set (metal, wooden or plastic). We are also looking for a fairy garden door and small buckets for the sand.
Thank you
