This week in Reception has been so exciting! All are eggs have hatched into ducklings. The children have loved observing them, holding them and helping to look after them.

We have been developing our Understanding of the World (science) learning, making careful observations and using our words to describe and write about what we can see. We hope that your child has enjoyed the experience and told you all about it.

Phonics 

This week in phonics, we have been revising all the phase 2 and 3 sounds we have learnt so far.
This weeks sounds are :-ch, sh, th and ng.
We have also been revising all of the phase 2 and phase 3 tricky words.

Maths

This week, the children have review the composition of the numbers 6 to 9 using the ‘5 and a bit’ structure, and have explored how 10 can be composed. They have also develop a sense of the ‘ten-ness of 10’ by making their own collections of 10 objects.

 Friday 12th September Welcome to our first blog post of this new school year! We are enjoying getting to know your children and we are pleased with how they are settling into their classes. Pictured below is our outdoor woodland area situated behind the Year R classrooms. Your child will be spending time each week in our woodland area. We would just like to recap what your child needs to bring to school. They should bring a named, non spillable water bottle to school each day (filled with water please). On Sunny days you might like to send a named sun hat with your child.  Please apply sun cream at home in the morning and do not send it to school. Please can you put a change of clothes in your child's book bag as they may well get wet in the water tray or have an accident.  A change of clothes may include plain leggings or jogging bottoms, pants, socks and a plain t-shirt. Friday 26th September This week we have been singing the nursery rhyme 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'. We are encouraging the children to join in with actions. We have been working on the children's use of scissors.  Lots of children have found this very challenging.  Please see the correct way to hold scissors below. Right handed scissor hold Left handed scissor hold You might like to give your child opportunities to use scissors at home.  Perhaps they could help you by snipping the tops of green beans when you are cooking.  They could practise snipping the tops of paper tubes to make models. Friday 19th September

   Friday 19th September We have been learning and performing the nursery rhymes "Incy Wincy Spider" and "Little Miss Muffet". Over the next few weeks, we will be learning lots of different nursery rhymes and on Tuesday 21st October, we will be having a nursery rhyme dress up day and sponsored nursery rhyme singing event at school.  Further details will follow nearer the time.
