Fairytales


This week at school we have been learning about fairytales. We have been reading "Goldilocks and the three bears".
We have been practising retelling the story in groups and role playing the characters. We worked on using different kinds of expression in our voices to show the different characters. You might like to practise this skill at home when your child is reading to you.

Phonics
This week in phonics we have been revising the digraph and trigraphs ear, air, ure, and er. We have practised reading and spelling words with these sounds in. Please check your child's reading log to check which book you need to read on Bug Club. Thank you

Maths
This week in maths we have been counting to 20 and beyond.

 Friday 12th September Welcome to our first blog post of this new school year! We are enjoying getting to know your children and we are pleased with how they are settling into their classes. Pictured below is our outdoor woodland area situated behind the Year R classrooms. Your child will be spending time each week in our woodland area. We would just like to recap what your child needs to bring to school. They should bring a named, non spillable water bottle to school each day (filled with water please). On Sunny days you might like to send a named sun hat with your child.  Please apply sun cream at home in the morning and do not send it to school. Please can you put a change of clothes in your child's book bag as they may well get wet in the water tray or have an accident.  A change of clothes may include plain leggings or jogging bottoms, pants, socks and a plain t-shirt. Friday 26th September This week we have been singing the nursery rhyme 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'. We are encouraging the children to join in with actions. We have been working on the children's use of scissors.  Lots of children have found this very challenging.  Please see the correct way to hold scissors below. Right handed scissor hold Left handed scissor hold You might like to give your child opportunities to use scissors at home.  Perhaps they could help you by snipping the tops of green beans when you are cooking.  They could practise snipping the tops of paper tubes to make models. Friday 19th September

   Friday 19th September We have been learning and performing the nursery rhymes "Incy Wincy Spider" and "Little Miss Muffet". Over the next few weeks, we will be learning lots of different nursery rhymes and on Tuesday 21st October, we will be having a nursery rhyme dress up day and sponsored nursery rhyme singing event at school.  Further details will follow nearer the time.
