Minibeasts

This week, we have been learning all about minibeasts.  We went on a minibeast hunt in the woodlands and collected a selection of minibeasts to take back to our class to study.  We have learnt how to accurately draw and label a minibeast.


Phonics
This week in phonics we have been revising the digraphs ar, or, oa, and oi. We have practised reading and spelling words with these sounds in. Please check your child's reading log to check which book you need to read on Bug Club. Thank you.

Maths

This week in maths we have been focusing on deepening the children's understanding of mathematical relationships within numbers to 10. 
These are some of the skills we have been practising:- 
*making a whole number from 2 parts 
*splitting some numbers into 2 groups that have equal amounts
*recognising that 2 equal groups can make a double

Minibeast concert


On Tuesday 7th July we will be performing our minibeast concert at 2.30 in the outdoor classroom. If your child would like to dress up as a minibeast on that day that would be great. It only needs to be something simple such as a headband and a coloured t-shirt. The children are very excited and we are looking forward to seeing you.

 Friday 12th September Welcome to our first blog post of this new school year! We are enjoying getting to know your children and we are pleased with how they are settling into their classes. Pictured below is our outdoor woodland area situated behind the Year R classrooms. Your child will be spending time each week in our woodland area. We would just like to recap what your child needs to bring to school. They should bring a named, non spillable water bottle to school each day (filled with water please). On Sunny days you might like to send a named sun hat with your child.  Please apply sun cream at home in the morning and do not send it to school. Please can you put a change of clothes in your child's book bag as they may well get wet in the water tray or have an accident.  A change of clothes may include plain leggings or jogging bottoms, pants, socks and a plain t-shirt. Friday 26th September This week we have been singing the nursery rhyme 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'. We are encouraging the children to join in with actions. We have been working on the children's use of scissors.  Lots of children have found this very challenging.  Please see the correct way to hold scissors below. Right handed scissor hold Left handed scissor hold You might like to give your child opportunities to use scissors at home.  Perhaps they could help you by snipping the tops of green beans when you are cooking.  They could practise snipping the tops of paper tubes to make models. Friday 19th September

   Friday 19th September We have been learning and performing the nursery rhymes "Incy Wincy Spider" and "Little Miss Muffet". Over the next few weeks, we will be learning lots of different nursery rhymes and on Tuesday 21st October, we will be having a nursery rhyme dress up day and sponsored nursery rhyme singing event at school.  Further details will follow nearer the time.
